Black and Gold in The Burgh!

I arrived at the Pittsburgh Airport last week, in jovial anticipation of the reunion with my mama who had traveled all the way from Maui for a visit, and beloved extended family! So you can guess that, naturally I would be surprised when my mom ran up to me in the airport screaming "I dropped Gramma, she's in the car with a bloody nose... she tripped over a speed bump!"
...My first reaction somehow was not so much that of surprise, but more of a "Ok, here weeee go, whooo deep breath!" kind of sensation. So, in lou of the emotional hellos, a very harried trip to the Thrify Car Rental Kiosk was had. My panic stricken mother, proceeded to tell the "Thrify" man what had happened, resulting in us not having to pay the extra $100 for me being added on as a extra driver! (a fact that would haunt us for the endurance of the trip in the form of "Well, we can pay a little extra here or there because we didn't have to pay that $100 for the car!") And with my mom's salutation of "If you ever come to Maui look me up, Uncle, seriously, I mean it!" to Thrifty man, my mom dragged me off and we were on our way to Gramma.
So, we rushed out of the airport doors, to gramma who was sitting in our rental, dabbing at her nose with a tissue and eating white tic-tacs. She was alright, a little startled and sore she said, but alright, thank God. It was a long, trafficy ride home serinaded by Hawai'ian music. Gramma was truly being a good sport about the whole incident, even making light of it all, and laughing!
Upon our return home, we noticed a little bump on the side of gramma's eye, which mom and I weren't sure if it was old, or a new speed bump induced bump. The next morning, I shuffled out to the living room, and was greeted by my Gramma's raging eye bump, which overnight had formed a completely purple crescent moon shape around her eye, causing her to look rather frightening, but she just smiled, and continued to watch Judge Judy. Each day, the eye, changed colors, and to my Gramma's dismay, it turned yellow, as she would have preferred purple, she said.
Everyone knows the colors of Pittsburgh are Black and Gold, and now, to me that has a whole new meaning. Now, I don't think of Jerome Bettis kicking someone's ass in a Burgh Ball field, but a speed bump kicking my Gramma's ass, in the Pittsburgh International Airport.
